'Expedite road works': motorists urge DPWH

APALIT - Motorists and residents here appealed for the quicker completion of road works in this town.

The call was made through social media after a truck overturned and blocked one lane of the national highway on Tuesday morning.

The vehicle tilted to its side while traversing the muddy and uneven road section in Barangay Sampaloc which is undergoing upgrading and repair.

The accident caused traffic gridlock stretching from Apalit to neighboring towns of San Simon, Pampanga and Calumpit in Bulacan province

Some motorists claimed they were stuck in hours-long traffic due to the incident.

The truck was removed around noon yesterday.

Netizen Russ Onabru lamented the numerous accidents caused by the potholes along the highway also called Manila North Road or MNR.

“Ilang truck o motor pa ba ang kailangan matutumba d’yan bago ituloy na talagang gawin ang daan? O baka naman may hinihintay pang mamatay,” he posted.

Another netizen Sean Jaochico suggested that road work must be done 24/7 for faster completion.

“Kung 24 hours ginagawa ang project na ito, hindi na sana aabutan ng monsoon season. Public road ‘yan, ginagamit ng mga tao, tapos eight hours lang ang trabaho?,” he asked.

The upgrading of sections of McArthur Highway from Sto. Tomas to Apalit towns is being undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The agency allocated some P200-million for the repair of the Pampanga section of the MacArthur Highway.
