Fireworks-related injuries in Central Luzon hit 189

THE Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of the Department of Health (DOH) in Central Luzon recorded some 189 fireworks-related incidents as of January 3.

The DOH Fireworks-Related Injury Surveillance update said that the cases recorded are one percent lower compared to same period last year at 191.

Cases recorded are the following: Aurora - one, Bataan - 22, Bulacan - 88, Nueva Ecija - 11, Tarlac – 28, and Zambales - eight. Pampanga has the most number of cases at 31.

Most of the victims were male at 145.

The age range is one to 83 years old with a median of 20. The DOH said that 88 cases recorded, occurred on the streets while 100 cases occurred within the homes of the victims.

At least 164 victims suffered blast burns while five cases included amputations. Some 20 victims suffered eye injuries.
