Fishermen in Bulacan get 900K milkfish fry

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO --- Fish farmers in Paombong, Bulacan who were affected by Typhoon Egay and habagat received some 900,000 milkfish fry from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Central Luzon.

The BFAR said the milkfish fry was provided by the Sarangani Fry Finfish Hatchery in support of the agency’s recovery efforts and fish sufficiency program.

The agency added that fish growers at the Paombong municipal covered court received the milkfish fry on Thursday, through the Municipal Agriculture Office.

BFAR said that the sufficient supply of milkfish fry will give more opportunities to those who want to venture into a fishery business and eventually contribute to the development of the industry in Central Luzon.

The Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said that damage to agriculture and fisheries sectors in the province brought about by Typhoon Egay in July was estimated at P93 million.

"In the coming months, we expect to see the positive effect of the distribution of the milkfish fry to the fisherfolk and the recovery of Paombong, Bulacan from the damage brought by typhoons,” the BFAR said.
