Floods drive 1K families to evacuation centers

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO —The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) in Pampanga reported that some 1,026 families are now staying in 69 evacuation centers all across the province.

The residents evacuated amid the rising floodwaters brought about by the prevailing southwest monsoon.

Reports from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) noted that the number of families in various evacuation centers account for some 4,102 individuals in 52 barangays.

Most of the evacuated families are from Macabebe town with at least 14 barangays affected.

Macabebe is followed by Minalin with 10 affected barangays and Masantol town with seven affected barangays.

The PSWDO also reported that some 110,362 families or 374,120 persons all over Pampanga are currently affected by flooding.

As of press time, Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda mobilized relief operations to affected residents.

Pineda instructed the PDRRMC to extend help to families needing immediate evacuation.

The governor, on Sunday July 29, visited flooded families in Candaba town extending some 2,700 food pacts to affected families.
