Folks reminded to ‘party with caution’

THE Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reminded the public to celebrate the holidays with caution.

“While the holiday season is a time for celebration, we also advise that the public take extra caution to avoid any untoward incidents,” said BFP city director Rhoderick Marquez.

Marquez issued basic safety reminders to avoid any accidents, particularly fire incidents, such as avoiding the use of firecrackers.

He added that “kwitis” (sky rocket) is among the leading causes of fire in the country.

Instead, Marquez urged the public to use fireworks and other household items to create noise and light during the New Year’s revelry.

“If we cannot avoid using firecrackers, there will be designated areas to be identified by officials in each barangay,” he said.

Marquez also advised not to leave Christmas lights open overnight to avoid overheating which may trigger fire in the household.

“Finally, buy fireworks and firecrackers from licensed sellers only as identified by the Department of Trade and Industry,” he said.
