Guagua town Covid-19 cases reach 82 confirmed, 60 active

GUAGUA -- Coronavirus cases in this town increased exponentially in the last three days with total confirmed cases reaching 82 confirmed with at least 60 of which are currently active.

Mayor Dante Torres said that the number of deaths has already reached seven cases with at least 19 barangays with on-going active cases. Torres had already issued orders for mandatory wearing of face masks and face shields as well as implement stricter protocols for the opening of the public market.

The barangays of San Juan Nepomuceno, Bancal and Santo Nino have all been placed in hard lockdown this week.

Barangay San Juan Nepomuceno alone has 14 active cases while Santo Nino is the site of the cluster of outbreaks emanating from the Guagua Public Market. Some 19 active cases trace their source infection to the Guagua Public Market.

Torres said that they are now doing double-time work in tracing all possible close contacts. He added that the town is now looking for additional quarantine facilities to house people who are identified for isolation.
