Mabalacat opens vaccination to residents of nearby towns

THE local government unit (LGU) of Mabalacat City, Pampanga has started accepting walk-ins in their coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccination at SM City Clark.

SM City Clark Manager Jerwin Jalandone said the LGU started the vaccination program for other towns on November 2, when the country is observing All Soul's Day.

Dr. Jay Rivera, the city's special assistant for Covid-19 response, said the walk-in vaccination starts at 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. from Monday to Friday at the SM Clark Cinema 3.

Rivera said their vaccination is open to other adjacent towns to attain herd immunity against the virus by Christmas together with other places.

"Nais ko pong iulat sa inyo na palapit na palapit na tayo na tayo na makuha natin ang herd immunity," Rivera said. "Dahil dito, minabuti ng ating butihing mayor at sanggunian [bayan] na tumulong po sa ating mga karatig bayan upang sama sama nating makuha at tinatawag nating herd immunity.”

(I would like to report to you that we are getting closer and closer to getting herd immunity. Because of this, our good mayor and council [town] decided to help our neighboring towns so that together we can get what we call herd immunity.)

Mayor Cris Garbo earlier expressed their desire to help other neighboring towns as the city is targeting to achieve its herd immunity against Covid-19 by November 15.

As a graduate of medicine course, the mayor said he believes that herd immunity is not just for Mabalacat but for other places especially those with limited resources and capacity to inoculate their constituents.

Jalandoni said the LGU is targeting 300 walk-ins every day.
