HUNDREDS of senior citizens in two villages of Magalang recently received their second quarter social pension from the local government.
The town's Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (Osca) initiated the distribution of social pension to seniors residing in Barangays Santa Cruz and San Ildefonso in Magalang.
"Namahagi ang mga kawani ng Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs kasama ang mga asosasyon ng mga senior citizens at barangay officials ng 2nd Quarter Social pension para sa mga nakakatanda (70 years old and above na qualified) sa Barangay Sta. Cruz at San Ildefonso," the local government stated.
Municipal Administrator Lyndon Cunanan said every senior citizen get P1,000 every quarter.
The local government unit (LGU) has already spent a total of P2.8 million for the seniors' benefits.
"Sa kabuuan, namimigay ang lokal na pamahalaan ng Magalang ng P2.8 Million para sa 2,837 na nakatatanda ngayong quarter (April-June)," Cunanan said.
Cunanan said the social pension is one of the priority projects of Mayor Romy Pecson.
"Ang nasabing Social Pension ay prayoridad na programa ng administrasyon ni Mayor Romulo Pecson para sa ating mga lolo at lola na kanyang ipinangako noong bago pa ito maihalal ulit bilang alkalde," Cunanan said.
Seniors who received the social pension are included in the list prepared by the Osca and the social welfare office of the town.
"Ang mga nabigyan ay mga kwalipikadong nakatatanda base sa listahan ng MSWDO at Osca," he added.
