Magalang town groceries closed to non-residents

THE local government of Magalang, Pampanga has closed its supermarkets and grocery stores to non-residents as a measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the said agricultural town.

In its Resolution Number 2 dated April 13, 2020, the Magalang Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease stated that supermarkets, grocery stores, and convenience stores in the municipality will be open exclusively for Magalang residents starting April 14.

As of Tuesday, April 14, Magalang Mayor Romulo Pecson said the town has remained Covid-19 free with no confirmed and positive cases.

As of April 13, the town recorded 16 suspect persons or patients under investigation (PUIs), 75 persons probable or under monitoring (PUM), and 325 persons who completed the 14-day quarantine.

The Municipal Government at the same time clarified the total lockdown enforced by the province does not mean that public markets and grocery stores are also closed.

Pecson asked his constituents to verify reports first to avoid getting fake news.

“Maging maingat at maniwala lamang sa mga opisyal na Facebook pages at news outlets. Ipagbigay alam sa PNP Magalang o sa Pampanga PPO 0915 599 9759 kung kayo ay nakatanggap ng pekeng balita o anunsyo.”

The town mayor said the local government was able to distribute rice, and food packs to the residents as part of its assistance to the residents during the lockdown.
