MASANTOL - The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region III (BFAR-3) turned over more than 1,700 bags of seafood fingerlings to fishermen in this municipality on Friday, June 30.

BFAR-3 allocated some P1.8-million under its “Balik Sigla sa Ilog at Lawa” or BASIL program for the activity.

The fingerlings were given to 23 Masantoleño fishermen who underwent seminar on rehabilitation of affected fisherfolk.

A total of 936 bags of bangus (milkfish) and 830 bags of vanamei (whiteleg shrimp) were turned over to the beneficiaries.

Mayor Jose Antonio “Ton Ton” Bustos thanked BFAR-3 for its assistance to local fishermen.

“Ang programang ito ay malaking tulong habang unti-unting nakakabangon ang ating mga apektadong mangingisda,” he said.
