A TOWN mayor in Tarlac province is planning to put up an online shopping portal as a measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in his locality.

Concepcion Mayor Andy Lacson said the municipal government has implemented several measures including online shopping to avoid interaction and close contact among the residents.

"One of the plans of the municipality, we will make a big shopping portal. It is like Shopee and Alibaba and Lazada. The system will be facilitated by the municipal government," the mayor said in Kapampangan.

Lacson called on his constituents who are skilled on how to develop electronic commerce and online shopping applications to support the project.

"Programmers who are skilled on e-commerce and shopping online, this is your chance to help the town. We will implement the program immediately and the local government will deliver [the products] to the people door to door," the local chief executive added.

Tricycle and jeepney drivers who were displaced by the enhance community quarantine (ECQ) will be tapped to assist in the implementation of the online shopping program.

Residents, who are interested to be part of the project, may submit their resume to the local government's social media wall, according to Lacson.

The mayor at the same time appealed for cooperation and support from his constituents, "I hope we will fight this crisis together because we cannot be effective without your support," Lacson told the people.
