Mayor orders vaccination of Mabalaqueño inmates

MABALACAT City Mayor Crisostomo Garbo has ordered the vaccination of Mabalaqueño inmates against coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Garbo instructed City Covid-19 Response Czar Dr. Jose Antonio Rivera to coordinate with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Angeles City for the vaccination of inmates from Mabalacat City.

“Karapatan ng bawat Mabalaqueño ang mabakunahan ano man ang kanilang estado sa komunidad. Minabuti po natin na makipag-ugnayan sa BJMP upang simulan na rin ang pagbabakuna sa ating mga kababayang Mabalaqueño na nasa piitan ngayon,” said Garbo.

(Every Mabalaqueño has the right to be vaccinated regardless of their status in the community. We would like to contact the BJMP to start vaccinating our Mabalaqueño compatriots who are in prison today.)

Rivera and the rest of the Covid-19 Response Integrated System (CRIS) medical team were quick to respond as they steered an onsite visit at BJMP-Angeles on September 27, 2021.

Prevention

On their Facebook Page, BJMP-Angeles City noted, “During this time of crisis where people can't afford getting sick due to scarcity of medical facilities and healthcare workers, prevention is way better than cure.”

“As part of our prevention for this pandemic, Angeles District Jail Male and Female Dorm in coordination with Mabalacat Health Office, the vaccination of our PDL (persons deprived of liberty) who reside at Mabalacat was granted,” BJMP-Angeles City stated.

To date, there are more than 500 Mabalaqueño inmates who are detained in the said facility.

BJMP-Angeles City disclosed that Mabalacat City is the first local government unit in the province of Pampanga to heed the call on their request to vaccinate imprisoned residents in the said district jail.

Recently, the local government here under the leadership of Mayor Crisostomo Garbo has been cited by the Philippine Civil Service Commission (CSC) for its frontline services that “immensely contributed to the fight against Covid-19."

As of September 21, the Mabalacat City Government has inoculated more than 210,000 Mabalaqueños against the dreaded virus.
