OVER 100 loud motorcyle mufflers were destroyed recently by local authorities pursuant to a municipal ordinance banning the use of said devices.
Mayor Danilo Guintu and chief of police Major Elias Tait led the destruction of total 189 modified motorcycle mufflers which were seized by policemen from owners.
Tait said the confiscation of such motorcycle devices is pursuant to Article 04 of the Municipal Ordinance No. 2016-007 or the Masantol Traffic Code which specifically orders motorcycle owners to "install muffler with silencer or any other similar device to avoid irritating noise in its use and operation."
"The use of loud muffler on motorcycles is prohibited to avoid cause disturbance in the community, especially on school and church zones and at night," he explained.
Guintu reminded the public to practice discipline on the road by observing the traffic rules and regulations.
"Rules are made to be followed so let us practice discipline within ourselves and observes the laws, may it be local or national to maintain the peace and order in our community," he said.
Meanwhile, a video karera that was seized by town policemen during an anti-gambling operation was also destroyed during the event.
"Our fight against illegal gambling is incessant so let this be a reminder to the operators and bettors to stop your activities or face the law," he said.
Guintu also warned Masantoleños that no one shall be exempted from the campaign against illegal gambling headed by President Duterte.
