OPA: Typhoons damage P37-M worth of crops

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO —More than P37-million worth of crops were destroyed during the onslaught of typhoons “Goring” and “Hanna”, and the southwest monsoon last week.

This was learned from the recent report of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA).

The agriculture office said it logged a total of P37,289,216 worth of damages to agriculture as of Wednesday afternoon.

Most of the damages were rice crops with a value of P31,703,299.

High value crops amounting to P86,200, and corn and cassava worth P 5,499,717 were also destroyed.

The affected farmlands are located in the cities of San Fernando and Mabalacat; and the towns of Arayat, Bacolor, Mexico, Magalang, Sta. Ana, Sta. Rita, Apalit, Porac, and Candaba.

The OPA said it is assisting affected farmers to allow them to recover their losses.
