Pampanga council honors Arroyo

THE Pampanga Provincial Board (PB) honored, through a resolution, former President and House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for her dedication to rendering public service.

PB members, headed by then Vice Governor Dennis Pineda, presented Resolution 5429 to Arroyo during the mass oath-taking ceremony of new and re-elected local officials over the weekend at the LausGroup Event Centre.

The resolution expressed due recognition and profound appreciation to Arroyo “for her remarkable statesmanship, exceptional leadership and selfless public service that made significant contributions to the development and progress of the Republic of the Philippines.”

Arroyo served as elected official for 27 years, being elected as senator from June 30, 1992 to June 30, 1998, vice president from June 30, 1998 to January 20, 2001, and subsequently installed as the president of the Philippines after then-President Joseph Estrada was impeached, and thereafter re-elected as president. She served as representative of Pampanga’s second district from 2010 to 2019, as was also voted in as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2018 to 2019.

“During her incumbency, the former President (Arroyo) developed a blueprint to lift the national economy out of its national crisis which resulted [in] a higher growth rate way beyond other nation; lasting peace and healing efforts that promoted public harmony; and provided reliable and integrated mass transit system at par with the international standards,” the resolution noted.

It also cited the strong leadership, excellent economic insights and viable programs, and unparalleled nation-building efforts manifested by Arroyo that “served as a source of great pride not just for Pampanga but to the entire country.”

Arroyo was also described by the PB as “symbolizes an icon of a strong republic.”

Arroyo, for her part, expressed gratitude to the Kapampangans for the continuous support shown to her during her political years, and to all the programs she initiated, all aimed at developing the country and her home province of Pampanga.

“Dakal pung salamat kasi ali yu ku pepaburen manibat kanitang senator ku, and then gewa yu kung vice president kaibat presidenti ning Pilipinas. (Thank you for always supporting me since I ran for senator, and then elected me as vice president, until I became president of the Philippines),” she said.
