THE Pampanga Provincial Board (PB) has approved an ordinance authored by Second District Board Member Mylyn Pineda Cayabyab, which introduced amendments to the existing Most Outstanding Kapampangan Awards (Moka), expanding it to include more Kampangans from various sectors.
The PB on Monday, September 11, 2023, approved the ordinance which is set to be signed by Governor Dennis Pineda.
The amendments include an additional category to the Moka, namely the Outstanding Kapampangan OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker) category.
This new category will allow the nomination of outstanding Kapampangans from communities abroad.
Other amendments include the possible nominations for emerging categories as well as a provision for financial incentives for Moka winners in the coming years.
The nomination of people who are not Kapampangan by blood or birth but have lived in Pampanga for at least 15 years was also proposed.
The amendments were the product of a series of consultations with Moka awardees led by Cayabyab and Board Member Ananias Canlas.
Moka is the main highlight of the weeklong founding anniversary celebrations of Pampanga known as “Aldo Ning Kapampangan.”
The event culminates on December 11, the founding date of the province which is capped by the Moka awards night.
Since its inception, the Moka has honored more than 400 Kapampangans in various fields.
