MEXICO -- The Pampanga I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (PELCO I) has conducted recently its Tree-Planting Activity at Barangay San Patricio, Mexico, Pampanga particularly at the river bank of the Abacan River.

Around 500 bamboo seedlings were planted by the employees of the said power distribution firm in areas determined by personnel of the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources-Pampanga Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-Pampanga PENRO).

Enngineer Loliano Allas, PELCO I’s General Manager led employees in planting bamboo seedlings along the embankment of the river. Along with them was Mexico PELCO 1 Director Ofelia Quizon who stressed the importance of planting bamboo along river banks to avoid soil erosion and possible breach of the embankment during rainy season.

Allas, meanwhile, intimated that PELCO I’s care for the environment is one among the electric cooperative’s advocacies for the people by way of contributing to the flood protection efforts to residents along the river embankment and help in addressing global warming.

The said endeavor is in line with the celebration of the National Electrification Administration Month last August. The said government agency exercises supervision over electric cooperatives in the country. (DPL)
