CLARK FREEPORT -- Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda has endorsed outgoing San Luis Mayor and Councilor-Elect Venancio "Asyong" Macapagal to be the next president of the Pampanga Councilors League (PCL).

Pineda, who is the vice governor-elect of the province, made the endorsement in a meeting with officers of the Liga ng mga Barangay and Sanggunian Kabataan headed by Board Members Gabby Mutuc and Moshe Lacson at Royce Hotel Clark last Friday.

"Mga Kapitan at mga SK kayo na ang bahala kay (Mayor) Asyong, kailangan ko siya sa Provincial Board," Pineda said.

Macapagal thanked the outgoing governor and her husband Rodolfo "Bong" Pineda for their support in his candidacy as PCL president.

"Malaki ang aking pasasalamat sa pag endorse sa akin ni Tatay (Bong) at Nanay ( aby) bilang candidado nila sa posisyon na presidente ng liga (PCL), makakaasa sila na kung tayo ay papalarin ,mag tratrabaho para sa kapakanan ng mga kasamahan kong konsehal at sa Probisyang kapampangan," Macapagal said.

Outgoing PCL President and Second District Board Member Elect Fritzie David Dizon had reportedly signified support to the candidacy of Macapagal.

The three term mayor and now councilor-elect also got the nod of his former colleagues in the Pampanga Mayors League PML who promised to endorse him to their councilors.

During his nine years as local chief executive of San Luis, Macapagal is a grand slam winner of the DILG's Seal of Good Local Governance and has won numerous awards in the field of public service.

He will be facing former PCL President and now Porac First Councilor Mike Tapang who had also signified his intentions of regaining his old post in the provincial board.

Tapang has reportedly been going around the province seeking commitments from fellow councilors. He had completed his line-up except the position of vice president.

Sun Star Pampanga learned that the other candidates contemplating to run for the said post are City of San Fernando Councilor Tino Dizon, Councilor Elect and former PCL President Dein Henson and Manalin First Councilor Elect Rondon Mercado. (Chris Navarro)
