Politicians told not to post-holiday greetings on trees

THE Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office in San Simon town, Pampanga has reminded politicians to stop posting holiday greeting materials on trees.

Since the start of the holidays, several tarpaulins bearing Christmas and New Year greetings with names and photographs of several individuals were seen posted on trees along major thoroughfares in the municipality.

Over the weekend, the office has started taking down several tarpaulins in compliance with Republic Act No. 3571, and local Executive Order No. 36 S. 2020.

"These practice is considered unlawful not only to our society but moreso to our environment. Posting of tarpaulins by use of nails or any other sharp objects harm our trees," the office reminded.

Aside from removal and confiscation of tarpaulins, the persons responsible were also warned of possible charges that may be filed against them by the local government.

The environment office said confiscated tarpaulins will be kept by the local government for recycling purposes.
