PUI who died in Magalang tests positive for coronavirus

A SUSPECTED patient of Covid-19 from Barangay Santa Lucia in Magalang town who died at the Andres Luciano District Hospital (ALDH) on May 4 had tested positive for the new coronavirus, which causes Covid-19.

The local government stated that the 62-year-old male had no travel history and no direct exposure to health facilities with Covid-19 cases.

The patient was admitted to a private hospital in the City of San Fernando on April 18 and diagnosed with pneumonia with underlying chronic kidney disease due to diabetes mellitus and was earlier classified as patient under investigation.

He underwent swab test on April 21 and was discharged from the private hospital on April 28.

The patient was placed under strict home quarantine together with his relatives for 14 days while waiting for the lab test result.

On April 4, the patient was rushed to the ALDH but pronounced dead on arrival by physicians in the medical center.

The patient's body was cremated in compliance with Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Memorandum Circular 2020-063 or the Interim Guidelines on the Management of Human Remains for Patient Under Investigation (PUI) and Confirmed Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19 cases.)

The Municipal Government assured that the patient's relatives and other persons he had encountered with will continue quarantine.

The local health office has recorded three confirmed cases of Covid-19 but the local government stressed that none of these were locally transmitted.

"Ang mga kumpirmadong kaso ng Covid-19 sa ating bayan ay hindi locally transmitted. Si Covid-19 Patient M1 ay isang healthcare frontliner sa ibang siyudad, si Covid-19 Patient M2 ay isang BPO agent sa Mandaluyong, si Covid-19 Patient M3 na yumao kamakailan ay may malubhang karamdaman na palagian ang pagpunta sa ospital," the Municipal Government stated.

The municipality has 64 persons under monitoring as of May 10, 2020.
