Red tide warning still up in Pampanga, Bataan

THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) issued Shellfish Bulletin No. 22, Thursday, November 28, that the warning on people from eating, gathering or harvesting shellfish from the coastal waters of Bataan and Pampanga is still in effect.

Based on the latest laboratory results of the BFAR and local government units (LGUs), shellfishes collected at coastal waters of Sual in Pangasinan; coastal waters of Pampanga; coastal waters of Bataan (Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Balanga, Hermosa, Orani, Abucay, and Samal) are still positive for paralytic shellfish poison that is beyond the regulatory limit.

The BFAR advisory said gathering and harvesting and marketing of shellfish from Bataan and Pampanga is now discouraged.

The BFAR and LGUs are now monitoring affected areas to ensure the safety of consumer.

The BFAR said that red tide warnings are still up in Puerto Princesa Bay, Puerto Princesa City in Palawan; coastal waters of Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol; Cancabato Bay, Tacloban City in Leyte and Irong-irong, San Pedro, and Silanga Bays in Western Samar.

Moreover, Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur is now positive for red tide toxin, according to the BFAR.
