Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda has directed doctors and psychologists to attend to the medical and psychological needs of some 160 children rescued from a church-run facility in Mexico recently.

The Capitol said the children received "immediate medical care and support from the provincial government" following allegations of abuse.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) issued a cease and desist order (CDO) on New Life Baptist Church of Mexico, Pampanga Inc. (NLBCMPI).

The facility was accused of "child abuse violations and non-compliance with the agency’s registration, license to operate, and accreditation standards."

A medical team from the Provincial Health Office, headed by Dr. Dax Tidula, was dispatched to conduct check-ups and provide urgent treatment.

“Some children had symptoms of colds and coughs, while others had bruises on their arms and chest. We are conducting further tests, including X-rays, to determine the extent of their injuries,” said Provincial Health Officer Dr. Dax Tidula.

The provincial government has also provided warm meals like lugaw and pancakes, hygiene kits, clothing, and haircut services as part of the children’s care and rehabilitation.

“We want them to feel cared for and comforted—because clearly, they were not receiving the care and protection they deserved,” Pineda said.
