Residents put up checkpoint, warning signs for outsiders

SANTA RITA -- Residents of Barangay San Isidro here put up checkpoints and placards, warning outsiders to keep out to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the town.

The village is among the five barangays of this town with active Covid-19 cases. Compound and sitios established checkpoints and require those living in the areas to undergo disinfection when leaving or entering the compounds.

As for outsiders, residents said they are asking those who do not live in the areas to refrain from entering or passing through the compounds. On such area is Sitio Looban, which is home to some 15 families.

Pictures of the said checkpoints went viral on social media on Monday, June 29. The local police reportedly visited the areas and while they do not prohibit the setting up of community checkpoints, the residents were asked to remove the placards.

Most houses here also have posters in front of their gates cautioning visitors and delivery personnel to do business outside of their gates.

Santa Rita town has seen a resurgence of infection in just a week. At least nine individuals currently have active coronavirus infection, and one of them is a three-year-old child, the youngest recorded case in Pampanga and Central Luzon.
