The municipal government held its second Ablas ning Balas Festival on August 2, Saturday with a series of events highlighting the town’s culture and ability to adapt to natural disasters.

The festival, which started in July 2024, was conceptualized with the economic impact of the sand quarry industry in the town.

Porac is known for its rich vast sand resources from the past eruptions of Mt. Pinatubo.

Mayor Jing Capil said the festival aims to celebrate the resiliency of the Porac people and honor the economic effects of the sand industry in the lives of residents.

While the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo and the succeeding lahar flows have devastated the town a few decades ago, Capil said the disaster had left a rich economic resource for the town and its people.

The festival featured street dancing, with performers coming from public high schools in the town.

The event also highlighted an exhibit, where artworks related to the sand industry were presented.

The festival also showcased designer trucks, 4x4 vehicles, motorcycles, and remote-controlled cars, as well as decorated trucks, demonstrating local creativity and craftsmanship.

The municipal government said RC Rock Crawler Display and Competition and trade fair were also scheduled during the festival.

Porac's quarry industry is essential to the local economy, offering employment opportunities and supporting regional infrastructure projects, according to Capil.
