San Luis LGU to jab pregnant women

TO ADVANCE its goal of reaching herd immunity soon, the local government of San Luis, Pampanga will start vaccination of eligible pregnant women in the town Thursday, September 23, 2021.

This was announced by Mayor Jayson Sagum on Tuesday, September 21, who encouraged all pregnant women to get themselves immunized from the virus.

Sagum cited reports of more pregnant women contracting coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the past months, some of which led to critical conditions and even death.

"Before, pregnant women were not encouraged to get vaccinated but due to rising Covid-19 cases among them, the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecology Society are now advocating for the vaccine," he said.

Sagum said the vaccine will not only protect mothers but also the babies in their womb who might also get the virus and cause complications.

Sagum, meanwhile, clarified that stay-at-home pregnant women must be 14 weeks along and above to get jabbed, while frontliners can get vaccinated even while they are in their first trimester.

The mayor also said that clearance from an obstetrician is highly advised to ensure that those pregnant are fit to receive the vaccine.

Those who want and are eligible to receive the vaccine will have their dedicated schedule on September 23 starting at 7:30 a.m. at the DEAB Convention Center.

The first 100 vaccinees will receive Buntis Kits worth P1,000, which contains essentials for mommy and baby.
