RESIDENTS of San Luis in Pampanga who participate in the mass vaccination program against coronavirus disease (Covid-19) may receive an incentive from the local government.

Mayor Jayson Sagum said he will raffle off a live cow each month starting September this year until August 2022 under the "Baka para sa Bakuna" project.

"One resident may win a cow each month which they can butcher up and sell or share with their families and neighbors. This is one of our ways to encourage more residents to get vaccinated against Covid-19," he said.

Sagum said the local government's goal of achieving a 100 percent vaccination rate in the municipality to ensure the protection of all of its residents against the virus.

The mayor earlier vowed to cover the cost of vaccines of residents, as well as workers in town who will not be included in the National Government's program.

Sagum said all residents who got inoculated prior to the raffle draw are qualified to participate in the program.

Participants must only present their vaccination cards, regardless if they are only in the first dose, as proof of entry.

Sagum, meanwhile, said that the funds for the program will not come from the local government but will be sourced from private donors.

He said he will be reaching out to his friends and kind-hearted residents who want to donate to sustain the program until all Luiseños are vaccinated.

"We are looking at around P20,000 to P25,000 worth of live cow per month so I am really knocking at the hearts of my friends and anybody who wants to help us in our little program. Let us be instruments in encouraging others to have themselves protected against Covid-19," he said.
