Showcasing of Parul in Clark airport eyed

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO --- The Luzon International Premier Airport Development (Lipad) wants to bring the "Parul Sampernandu" as part of its moves to boost tourism at Clark International Airport.

This was discussed during a meeting between city government officials led by Mayor Vilma Caluag and Lipad executives headed by Vice President for Commercial Development Eva Tejada at Heroes Hall on Monday.

Potential projects on transportation, tourism, and livelihood were the focus of the meeting, which include the bringing of the San Fernando giant lanterns to Clark airport during the post-festival exhibition which normally runs mid-December to early January of the following year.

The airport and local government officials said the display of the lanterns will boost Christmas and holiday activities at the airport and give tourists a glimpse of the world renowned "Parul Sampernandu."

Lipad also proposed the bringing and selling of Parul Fernandino into the Clark airport premises as a way of providing the local lantern makers a wider market.

The airport operator said Clark airport is a major hub of local and foreign tourists in Pampanga.

Another highlight of the meeting was the plan to include the City of San Fernando as one of Clark airport's point-to-point bus service destinations to cater to commuters from San Fernando and nearby areas in Pampanga.

Caluag and Villanueva said they will set a separate meeting on lantern promotion plans with the Giant Lantern Festival Foundation, Inc., and City Tourism and Investment Promotion offices soon.
