Solon vows support to AFP modernization bills

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO Patrol Partylist Representative Jorge Bustos vowed to continue supporting legislative measures related to the modernization program of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Bustos, a native of Masantol town, made the commitment during the committee hearing on National Defense and Security led by its chairperson, Iloilo 5th district Representative Raul Tupas on Tuesday.

The Kapampangan solon pledged to support the passage of bills that will help ensure that the needs and demands of the security sector will be met.

“The safety and security of our nation deserves no less than our full, undivided and absolute attention and devotion,” he said.

Bustos said he will seek new legislative measures that will improve the existing Republic Act 11709 or the AFP Modernization Act.

“We could look into re-introducing or filing a new bill that will amend some sections of the existing republic act to help in AFP’s improvement,” he said.

The AFP Modernization Program aims to strengthen the Philippine military’s capability to address counterterrorism, maritime domain security, and internal threats.

Bustos said this is in line with Patrol Partylist’s mission of ensuring public safety and serve Filipino families.
