Talavera farm-to-market road at 50% completion

THE Improvement of Poblacion Sur-La Torre-Bantug-Mamandil Farm to Market Road (FMR) is now 50 percent complete despite the hurdles of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic on the local labor force.

The project is set to be completed in October this year despite recent unfavorable weather conditions.

This was confirmed by Rural Infrastructure Engineer Lester Bacual together with the City Project Management and Implementing Unit (CPMIU) who conducted a site inspection of the subproject on last August 12.

The 3.7-kilometer road is funded by the Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) and is expected to provide better access road to rural communities and neighboring barangays here with a total population of 12,940 beneficiaries.

According to Bacual, although there had been scattered rains in the municipality a few weeks ago, the construction of the FMR gradually resumed to fast track the implementation of the subproject.

He also recalled that due to quarantine restrictions imposed since March, several on-site activities of ongoing subprojects were temporarily suspended. However, on-site and monitoring activities for DA-PRDP subprojects were now allowed to continue prior to following strict compliance of safety and health guidelines under the modified general community quarantine.

"The construction of the FMR may have its share of challenges but this FMR is a project the farmers will be proud of. Soon, the challenge of a poor road access will be behind them," Bacual ended.
