APALIT - A 13-year-old boy drowned in the Pampanga River while celebrating their town fiesta here yesterday, June 28.
Lieutenant Colonel John Riego, this town’s chief of police, said the victim was swimming with his younger brother in the portion of the Pampanga River in Barangay Sucad when the accident happened.
He said the incident transpired around 12:00 PM, before the fluvial parade of St. Peter the Apostle commenced.
“Kasama niya ‘yung kapatid niya. Baka hindi niya natantsa na malalim. ‘Yung kapatid niya nahila agad ng nanay nila pero itong biktima hindi nakuha agad,” Riego said.
Rescuers took more than 20 minutes before they were able to recover the victim's body.
They tried to rush the victim to the hospital but he was proclaimed dead upon arrival, said Riego.
