AN "IPO-IPO" (tornado) hit two villages right before Tropical Storm Jenny made landfall in Central Luzon Tuesday, August 27, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) in San Luis town reported Thursday, August 29.

The tornado, enhanced by heavy downpour, caused massive damage to nine houses in the Poblacion area, while a vehicle was hit by a fallen tree in Barangay San Carlos, the MDRRMO said.

No one was injured.

The local government immediately ordered clearing operations in the affected area, as well as the assessment and validation of properties damaged, particularly to infrastructure hit by the tornado.

Mayor Jay Sagum also instructed the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office to immediately provide relief assistance to Luiseño families whose houses were damaged by the tornado.

Based on reports from the Provincial DRRMO, it was the third time this year for a tornado to hit Pampanga. The two other incidents happened in Macabebe town last July 27 and Magalang town two days after.

The tornado that struck Barangay San Gabriel in Macabebe damaged public infrastructure, including a waiting shed and electric posts, but no one was injured.

In Magalang town, 13 houses and a school building were damaged, while seven persons were hurt.
