Total truck ban in Apalit town

APALIT - The local government here is implementing total truck ban starting today, June 28, until June 30.

The measure is part of the traffic management program for the three-day celebration of the 426th Apalit town fiesta.

Traffic congestion in the town caused by the ongoing construction in portions of McArthur Highway is expected to be aggravated by the influx of devotees coming in and out of the municipality during the festival.

Roseller Tolentino, director of Department of Public Works and Highway Region III, said trucks going to and from Metro Manila and South Luzon may use the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) during the truck ban period.

“Basta magcomply lang sila dun sa weight limit ng NLEx, makakadaan naman sila,” said Tolentino.

NLEx is implementing a 33-ton weight limit at the Candaba Viaduct in relation to the anti-overloading provisions of Republic Act No. 8794.

Based on NLEx scheduled maintenance works advisory for today, June 28, the leftmost and middle lane of the viaduct's northbound lane will be closed from 7:30 PM to 9 PM for concreting works.

All three northbound lanes of the viaduct will also be closed 9 PM to 5 AM on the next for the curing period.

Truckers coming from northern part of Pampanga may take the alternative route via Gapan City in Nueva Ecija in lieu of the weight prohibitions set on NLEx and McArthur Highway.
