Tumang leads student briefing for employment

MEXICO— Mayor Teddy Tumang, together with members of the Sangguniang Bayan, on Monday led the orientation and contract signing ceremony of 245 qualified Mexicano college students under the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES).

This is a joint program of the municipal government and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

SPES is an employment bridging program that aims to augment the family income of poor but deserving students.

Under the program, the DOLE shoulders 40 percent of the salaries of beneficiaries while their employers, government agencies, such as local government units, private companies, and other sponsor institutions, pay 60 percent.

Qualified students will be rendering work and service for 20 days.

The participants will receive a compensation amounting to P10,241 or P512.05 per day.

All qualified students were accompanied and assisted by their parents during the event.
