Veteran newsman Alfred Roxas dies at 86

A VETERAN newsman in Pampanga has died of illness at dawn on Wednesday, September 8, 2021.

Alfredo "Fred" Roxas, 86, was a president of Pampanga Press Club (PPC) and a news writer of Manila Bulletin.

His son said Roxas died of end-stage kidney disease and cardiac arrest.

Friends and relatives remember Roxas or Tang Fred as a jolly person always cracking jokes.

Officers and members of PPC sent their condolences to Roxas's family.

"Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let Perpetual Light shine on him," the PPC stated.

PPC President Maria Antoinette "Tonette" Orejas said Roxas also became Philippine News Agency bureau manager, United Press International stringer, and Central Luzon Media Association president.

"(Si Tang Fred ay) binansagang General Vicimcim sa Camp Olivas na noon ay sumasakop sa First Military Area na binubuo ng lahat ng lalawigan sa hilaga ng Maynila at kalaunan ay naging First Philippine Constabulary Zone," Orejas said.

(Tang Fred was dubbed General Vicimcim at Camp Olivas that then occupied the First Military Area comprising all the provinces north of Manila and later became the First Philippine Constabulary Zone.)

Roxas and his family live in California, USA.
