Vice guv assures support for tax amnesty proposal

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Vice Governor Lilia Pineda has assured her support for the proposed Tax Amnesty ordinance that will give reprieve to real property taxpayers in Pampanga.

Pineda said she fully supports the proposal now pending before the Provincial Board.

In a report from the Provincial Information Office (PIO), the vice-governor said real property taxpayers will only need to pay the basic tax excluding the payment of the accumulated surcharges, interests and penalties that were accounted from their unsettled Real Property Taxes (RPTs).

A consolidated report from the Provincial Assessor’s Office showed that uncollected RPTs from previous years until December 2018 already reached P1.7 billion.

Pineda emphasized that the tax amnesty will help those real property taxpayers who are incapable of settling their taxes due to the huge amount of penalties, surcharges or interest on their taxes. Thus, she urged them to take the opportunity to pay their unpaid taxes while there is a granting of financial relief, according to the PIO.

Under the proposed Tax Ordinance, real property taxpayers will be given relief from paying interests, surcharges, and other penalties accounted from their unsettled RPTs.
