THE Holy Angel University (HAU) Press club together with the HAU Speak Now joined hands and held a candle lighting activity over the weekend inside the Holy Angel University for Father Richmond Nilo, who was shot dead at the San Pablo Chapel in Zaragoza, Nueva Ecija, and for all of the victims of human rights violation as well.
Jaypee Cabral, former Angelite editor-in-chief, who represented the HAU Press Club said that the candle lighting ceremony was held to mourn for Father Nilo’s death, and to oppose the rise of extra-judicial killings in the country.
Together with Cabral were youth organizations such as The Angelite, CEFA Universitas, Anakbayan-HAU, the Campus Youth Ministry of Holy Angel University and the History class students of Professor Marian Caampued.
Cabral said he was happy about the youth seeking justice at a very young age.
“I am very glad that the youth are active with regards to these issues and I am confident that they know what is happening with the world they are living in,” he said.
Aside from the candles lit for Fr. Nilo, the youth also attended the said activity to seek justice for the victims of extra-judicial killings, the arrest of poor rights defender Ruby Lacadman, raise awareness about the discrimination of a fellow Filipino Muslim in the United States of America, media killings, and all other forms of human rights violations.
