The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has launched on Monday, May 26, a new state-of-the-art equipment for the checking of road worthiness of motor vehicles.
The agency said the equipment is called Mobile Motor Vehicle Inspection Facility (MVIF).
LTO Chief Vigor D. Mendoza II led the launching of the first facility which was installed at the agency’s Central Office in Quezon City.
Mendoza ordered the procurement of four brand new MVIF to ensure that all motor vehicles, particularly those being used for public transportation, are roadworthy especially amid the road crashes in the past weeks.
“Ang isang responsibilidad ng LTO ay mag-inspection ng mga sasakyan bago i-rehistro para malaman natin kung ang sasakyan ay roadworthy o hindi. Sa ngayon medyo nagkukulang tayo dyan, kulang tayo sa materyales, sa equipment, para magawa natin ang trabaho natin ng mabuti,” said Mendoza.
The MVIF is capable of inspecting both Light Duty Vehicles (LDV) and Heavy Duty Vehicles (HDV), with each transaction taking only 10 to 12 minutes for LDVs and approximately 30 minutes for HDVs, the LTO said.
The agency added that the entire process is fully automated.
All test results are recorded in real time directly into the system without any human intervention, ensuring faster, more accurate, and tamper-proof assessments, the LTO said.
Equipped with the full functionalities of a fixed test station, the MVIF offers the added advantage of mobility.
Mendoza personally checked the arrival and installation of the first MVIF at the LTO Central Office in Quezon City on May 13.
The three MVIFs will be distributed to three major regions in the country.
“We have one and we have three more coming by the end of the month or early June. We use it, repeatedly test it at kung maganda ang kalalabasan nito, we will request to buy more of these to be spread out in all regions of the Philippines,” said Mendoza.
“And then we plan to replicate this in every district office if necessary. Para sa ganun ma-testing natin ng Mabuti ang mga sasakyan, hindi yung patingin-tingin lang para makita natin na ang sasakyan ay talagang roadworthy,” he added.
