The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has clarified reports about imposition of penalties for motor vehicle owners who will fail to claim their respective license plates and continue using improvised plates.
The agency said there is no such order from both the Department of Transportation and the LTO Central Office.
"Right now, all our personnel were directed to focus on exhausting all the measures, strategies, initiatives and partnerships with as many groups to comply with the instruction of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. to release all the license plates within three months after the LTO was able to wipe out the backlog on June 30," it added.
The LTO urged motor vehicle owners with unclaimed original and replacement plates to secure them in the soonest possible time, either through online platform LTOTracker which also provides courier service, or through LTO offices across the country.
The agency said it has directed its regional and district offices to intensify the information drive on plate distribution in order to reach many motor vehicle owners, especially motorcycle riders.
"We commend all the Regional Offices and District Offices that are implementing good practices in speeding up the plate distribution as we continuously monitor the progress of the distribution process across the country," the LTO stated.
