Man nabbed for violating gun ban

Police on Wednesday arrested a construction worker in Gapan City, Nueva Ecija province for allegedly violating election gun ban.

On Monday, January 15, personnel from the 303rd Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 3 and Gapan City Police Station said they conducted a checkpoint in Barangay Pambuan, Gapan City.

The authorities said they flagged down a motorcycle driven by the suspect with a passenger.

After being stopped, police said the motorcycle driver identified as "Jose," allegedly a 26, fled towards Gapan City proper, leaving his unidentified passenger behind.

Police said the suspect was apprehended after a routine search.

An unlicensed .45 caliber pistol, m with a magazine and four rounds of ammunition concealed in his waistband, was found by the policemen.

The suspect failed to provide legal documents for the firearm.

Brigadier General Jean Fajardo, newly-installed Central Luzon police director, said that she will not tolerate any violation of election laws and firearms regulations.

"We call on the public to cooperate and report any suspicious activities to help us ensure a peaceful and orderly election process," she said.
