President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. signed into law Republic Act No. 12148, renaming Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) to Pampanga State University.
The law aims to "strengthen the identity and operational capacity of higher education in the province of Pampanga."
With its new name, Pampanga State University reflects "a broader provincial identity while continuing its long-standing legacy of academic excellence that dates back to its founding in 1861."
Marcos also signed Republic Act No. 12147, converting the university’s City of San Fernando Campus into a regular campus with fiscal autonomy.
The conversion of the City of San Fernando Campus ensures its full integration into the Pampanga State University system.
It acquired fiscal independence to manage its own budget, make strategic investments, and expand academic programs tailored to the needs of students and the community.
Pampanga 3rd District Representative Aurelio "Dong" D. Gonzales, Jr. said he authored both measures.
Gonzales added that he acknowledged the support of Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.
