San Simon mayor Abundio S. Punsalan Jr. has declared the suspension of afternoon in-person classes in public schools, from elementary to senior high School from March 17 to 21.

In a post on social media, the announcement said that this is "due to the anticipated high heat index in Pampanga and the region."

"Public schools are advised to implement modular or alternative learning modes during this period. Private school administrators are encouraged to assess the situation and decide accordingly for their respective institutions," the local government unit stated.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that Pampanga experienced one of the highest heat indexes last week at 46 degrees celcius.

"Everyone is strongly advised to take necessary precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat. Your safety and well-being remain our top priority," the advisory added.

The advisory has not changed as of press time despite the announcement of Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office that Pampanga will experience cloudy skies with isolated rain and thunderstorms from Monday, January 17 until the next day.
