
A modern public utility jeepney (PUJ) operator plying routes in Bulacan province was suspended after figuring in a recent accident that killed two persons and injured several others.
On Thursday, the The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Central Luzon said that Carmexss TSC has been issued a preventive suspension so as not to preempt the ongoing investigation.
The PUJ operator will not be allowed to ply its route for 30 days pending the probe result.
Authorities said the modern public utility jeepney allegedly attempted to overtake a vehicle along a bridge in MacArthur Highway in Calumpit, Bulacan but collided with a tricycle carrying four people at around 2 pm on Tuesday.
A tricycle driver and one passenger were killed in the crash.
Two passengers of the tricycle and 18 passengers of the modern jeep were wounded.
Many of the jeepney passengers were students from Bulacan State University.
Following the accident, the LTFRB called on operators of public utility vehicles to monitor their drivers’ compliance with road safety standards to prevent accidents.
