MPTC vows to help in waste management

The Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) has vowed to help in waste management in various cities and towns.

This was learned recently from Arrey Perez, MPTC Chief Regulatory Officer.

Perez said their firm will help in garbage collection in communities especially those that traverse expressways.

MPTC, a company under the MVP Group, operates NLEX, SCTEX, CAVITEX and other tollroads.

The Valenzuela section of NLEX was rendered impassable to all types of vehicles as floodwaters rose during the onslaught Sever Tropical Storm Crising a few days ago.

The government said garbage from surrounding communities caused flooding.

Floating trash was seen on cyclone wires that serve as the fence of NLEX Valenzuela section after the flood receded.

The tollway firm said garbage on waterways was also reported to be the cause of floods in many cities and towns especially in Metro Manila.

“We will adopt rivers and creeks in tandem with the LGUs,” Perez said.

He added that MPTC is committed to work with local government units to clean

clogged and polluted tributaries, creeks, and rivers.

The firm is also planning to invest in flood-mitigating measures, according to Perez.

The MPTC said it is set to adopt "orphaned bridges” along tollroads, which maintenance has been unaddressed as host LGUs and DPWH still settle responsibility issues.

The MPTC said its concession agreement with the government covers only the roadways under the bridges of expressways.
