De Leon: Instagram rolls out a new way of connecting with friends

ONE of the most unique things social media platform Snapchat has ever rolled out was the Snapcode, which provides users the feature to scan and locate online friends without typing out their username. Now, Instagram (IG) just launched a similar method for adding contacts dubbed as name Nametag.

The new feature allows users to link up almost instantly when they meet in real life. How cool is that?

This Nametag option is under the menu on the top right of the screen on your IG Profile. From here you can modify your name tag.

Both iOS and Android users can take pleasure in the benefits of Nametag by swiping right and scanning a tag with their phone’s camera. Or, by tapping “scan a Nametag” under settings.

Admittedly, to me it’s just a glamorized way of manually typing in someone’s username, although it can be super handy when spelling is tricky. If someone has a particularly long and difficult handle, you could just now use the Nametag feature to add them.

But you see? You can still use the user name. So why get mad? It is not like they are not allowing the previous way anymore. Just because it is not useful for some it doesn't mean it is not useful for others.

That’s it for now stay active and... yes seriously, that’s pretty much everything that we can talk about it for now because that’s basically what it’s all about.

However, with Instagram already being one of the leading social media options, it will be thrilling to see how it grows over time. Currently, the platform is pushing to connect people in new, exciting ways.
