De Leon: What does 'sheesh' mean? Understanding that viral TikTok slang

YOU’VE heard it all over TikTok and Social Media Reels: clips of food, makeovers and even confessionals overlaid with loud, high-pitched choruses of "sheeeeeeesh."

So, what does it mean? And, even more important, is it "cool" to say it?

So we break down the viral slang on-air.

Surprisingly, “Sheesh” is a common word in the dictionary since 1900, and it means "o express disbelief or exasperation. More so, it's used as a reaction to having stirred an unexpected, negative (angry) reaction in somebody else.”

But on TikTok, "sheesh" signifies everything from bragging to cringing to excitement!

It can mean anything from "dang, you look good" or '"OK, I see you" when someone does something impressive.

But don't go running around saying "sheesh" just yet. Gen Z thinks it's cringey for older people to say "sheesh."
