Decency

Senator Robinhood Padilla is undoubtedly one of the most popular political icons now after getting popular in the box office when he was still an action star. He topped the box-office too during his Senate run and it seems that he is getting popular this time not on the good side.

The “Bad Boy” of Philippine movies is now the bad boy to some. He drew flak from the public after he was seen combing his mustache while a Senate hearing was on-going. He was quick to explain, saying that there are no rules that prohibits doing such instead of apologizing, which he later did, after realizing perhaps his lack of decency while in an official function.

While it is true that there are no rules that prohibits the combing of a mustache during a legislative hearing, it is an indecent Robin that is reflected to the public. Many were dismayed when they saw a Senator who seemed to be in front of a mirror in the privacy of his dwelling and doing some personal activities. A few days prior, he was criticized for his answers during a deliberation on a motion while in the plenary.

Former actress-turned-politician Aiko Melendez is also the subject of criticisms due to his dance number she posted on Tiktok. It seems that there is no problem with such. However, her video was made inside the Session Hall of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Quezon City.

Melendez, who is now a councilor of District 5 of the city, did not show respect to the place where a big Philippine flag was in the background and the official seal of the city was displayed. Sadly, she was with the Sangguniang Kabataan President dancing in the video. She was with other councilors of the city in the other clips.

Because of the criticisms, Melendez was quick to react saying that the videos were shot prior to their session and she did not violate any law for her Tiktok dance while inside the Session Hall. It is very true that she did not violate any law or rules. However, decency and prudence dictates that they should not transform the hall into a dance floor.

A few days ago during the National Bureau of Investigation’s mid-year Command Conference that was held at Diamond Hotel in Manila City, some sexy dancers had their dance as an intermission number before the country’s top criminal investigators.

The scantily clad dancers, wearing black bikini bottoms swayed their hips in the middle of the dance floor. A dancer later moved closer to the seated guests, swayed and thrusted her hips sexily.

Again, there is nothing wrong with dancing as a form of entertainment. The dancers at the NBI conference had their wrong time and wrong venue that caught the attention and ire of the public.

These people, whether elected or appointed into public office, form part of the civil service. As such, they are expected of decency and propriety while in the performance of their duties and responsibilities regardless if they are violating any law or rules or not.
