DeLeon: The Gen Z royals more ‘Instagram influencer’ than aristocrat

The world came together last weekend to commemorate Queen Elizebeth life. She has been the reigning monarch for 70 years and continues to be an influence for the younger generation. Although she has been ruling for so long, not a lot was known about her. But with Meghan Markle's highly publicised exit from the royal family, the common man managed to get a more detailed understanding of the family as well as the numerous rules put in place.

In particular, the line of succession - extends far beyond the famous faces who regularly make public appearances and headlines. Did you know there's a whole generation of Millennial and Gen Z royal family members out there that you've most likely never heard of? From a personal-trainer-turned-Royal-Marine, to a pottery maker to marketing agents and high fashion models with huge Instagram followings, these 'kids' are a real mixed bag. And it's safe to say we're fascinated. The likes of Lady Amelia Windsor, Samuel Chatto, Arthur Chatto and Zenouska Mowatt are just few from the list.

Every working royal is a daughter, son, niece or nephew, treading the fine line between representing the Queen and being a private citizen.

A report by The Times hails them royal-slash-socialites, or ‘royalites,’ who enjoy privileges of royal life while being allowed the freedom to travel, model, write for magazines and hold down so-called 'normal' jobs.

As Victoria Arbiter, daughter of the Queen’s former press secretary Dick Arbiter, explains, the Queen “does not rule with an iron fist and she would never presume to tell private members of the extended family what they can and can’t do.

“As with all things ‘royal’, it’s a delicate balance,” she says.
