Drag Queen, a vibrant and captivating form of performance art, has gained significant popularity in recent years. This essay aims to provide a critique of this unique art form, highlighting its positive impact on society while acknowledging potential areas for improvement.

Firstly, Drag Queen performances serve as a powerful celebration of individuality and self-expression. By challenging societal norms and gender expectations, drag queens create spaces where people can explore their own identities freely. Their extravagant costumes, flawless makeup, and charismatic stage presence captivate audiences and encourage them to embrace their authentic selves.

Moreover, drag queens are artists who skillfully blend elements of comedy, dance, lip-syncing, and storytelling into their performances. They possess an exceptional ability to entertain while conveying important messages about acceptance, inclusivity, and social justice issues. Through their artistry, they foster empathy among diverse communities by breaking down barriers and promoting understanding.

However, it is important to acknowledge that there are areas within the drag queen community that require attention. Some critics argue that certain aspects of drag perpetuate stereotypes or appropriate cultures without proper understanding or respect. It is crucial for performers to be mindful of these concerns in order to ensure that their art remains inclusive rather than offensive.

In the case of Pura Luka Vega, I simply cannot tolerate his blatant disrespect for the Roman Catholic Church with his rock remix performance of “Ama Namin.” Dressed to perfectly mimic Jesus Christ, his satirical performance cannot and should not be accepted at all. Luka Vega defends himself by saying that the said act was “a means to challenge the notion of "praise and worship" and not intended as an act of blasphemy”.

As a result, he was declared as persona non grata in at least 17 localities such as General Santos City; Floridablanca, Pampanga; Laguna; Manila; Bukidnon; Toboso, Negros Occidental; Nueva Ecija; Cebu City; Cagayan de Oro; Occidental Mindoro; Dinagat Islands; Lucena; Mandaue; Bohol; Marikina City; Oriental Mindoro; and Malolos, Bulacan.

In conclusion, Drag Queen is an extraordinary form of performance art that celebrates individuality while entertaining audiences with its creativity and talent. The impact it has on society cannot be understated; it provides a platform for marginalized voices to be heard while promoting acceptance and inclusivity. However, drag queen must and should always be mindful of everything they do as they express themselves because freedom of expression is not absolute especially when it intends to malign and disregard people’s beliefs and feelings.
