On being falsely prosecuted

If a fine lawyer like former Senator Leila de Lima can be incarcerated for a long time on alleged fabricated charges by vindictive officials of the former administration, what can an ordinary person do to stave off false prosecution?

The former lady senator has been in prison for more than six years now as she apparently has no chance to post bail for her provisional liberty.

True, her two out of three anti-illegal drug cases have already been dismissed, but she remains incarcerated because her petition to post bail has not been given due course.

It is noteworthy to remember the case of former senator, now Chief Presidential Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile who was released from jail for humanitarian reasons. Cannot de Lima be given the same treatment?

The feisty senator has earned the great ire of former President Rodrigo Duterte and his other officials, hence. they made sure she remains in jail without chance of posting bail!

Now that material witnesses (Ragos et al) have recanted their original testimonies virtually exonerating the former senator and justice secretary there is no point in keeping her in jail and let her use her productive juices for society. This is indeed a funny and peculiar situation.

It is in the news. A Muntinlupa court has dismissed another drug case filed by the Department of Justice against the former Senator and her suspected lover, driver Ronnie Dayan.

The charge accused the two of conspiring to commit illegal drug trading allegedly done during her term as justice secretary.

Well, the rest has been part of the protracted incarceration of the former senator which even generated interest and sympathy of the international community.

Now that the barangay and SK elections are looming near, I can mention Kagawad Rodolfo Bondoc who now aims to run for the position of Punong Barangay at Mawaque (Malati and Maragul). Dolfo has been serving selflessly hsi barangay mates and he aspires to serve them better in his new position. Ditto with Kitong Gonzales, a member of Mayor Garbo's security detail, who is running for Kagawad in Barangay Sapang Biabas.

Of course, seeded to win in their respective turfs are Barangay Poblacion Punong Barangay Elmer "Totong" S. Mendiola. Kap Totong has done a fine job in his turf and has seen much improvement in Barangay Poblacion.

The same holds true with Kap Elmer R. Calaguas who is running for reelection. Kap Elmer has performed creditably well in his barangay and his barangay mates can attest to this. Both he and Kap Totong deserve to be punt again in their respective post.
