Pangan: Saving our youth and their future

EVEN the revered Pope Francis, head of the billion-strong Catholic Church, weighed in on the drug menace as he urged governments to combat drug addiction and courageously undertake the fight against those who deal with death.

The young sector of the country's population is deeply affected by the ill effects of illegal drugs that is why President Duterte is so keen and serious on purging the illegal drugs trade.

Atty. Salvador Panelo, the presidential spokesman remarked: this is precisely the rationale behind the President's war on illegal drugs in the Philippines to save the young and future generations of Filipinos from the drug scourge.

The young people are gullible and fall easy prey to the merchants of illegal drugs. Once they fall into the trap, their lives begin to self-destruct and their future is doomed.

There are several laws safeguarding the rights, privileges and welfare of the youth in the Philippines as well as associations, clubs and offices which render auxiliary services to them.

What is primordial is the effectiveness of the programs of the government to ensure the well being of the young.

It should be remembered, however, that nothing is more important and effective than the wholehearted support, love and care of the family to which the young individual belongs.

God has a plan, God has a purpose. Mayor Crisostomo C. Garbo thus premised his talk last Monday, December 10, 2018 during the flag ceremony.

Although he was visibly disappointed over the Sangguniang Panlungsod's inaction on his request for supplemental budget which includes the salaries of job order contract holders, he said he has no rancor against any member of the legislative body. He explained thoroughly the usage of the funds previously approved by the SP thus the programs-based activities were all covered and paid for which explains the zero balance of the budget previously passed upon.

He said he did not personally receive any funds therefrom, nor his household and he vehemently disputed any claims to the contrary. My conscience is clear, claimed the first-termer mayor.
